Letter to the Editor Re Ballot
Question B
After more than four years of deliberation
by several regional committees, a steering committee and approval by the planning
commission, the draft of a new Talbot County Comprehensive Plan is before
the County Council for consideration. It is clearly expressed in this document
that the people of Talbot County want shopping centers and big box retail
kept within the incorporated towns, not sprawling across the countryside.
This view is in keeping with
numerous polls, surveys, elections and a previous referendum in Talbot County.
Voters should remember a previous referendum campaign effort in 2002 by Home
Depot that flooded the county with expensive advertising in order to build
a store where is wasn't wanted. The voters weren't fooled and Home Depot lost
by a 29% margins.
Keep major retail within
the incorporated towns. Vote YES ON B.
