Smart Growth versus Dumb Growth

Voting for Smart Growth is voting YES on "County Question B - Local Referendum Zoning Amendment - Bill 924" on November 2nd.  Your vote will confirm the County Council's decision a while back to limit development in the General Commercial Zones in the county to 65,000 square feet.  Bill 924 also enacts minimum design standards for buildings in this zone.  Smart Growth is for this type of development to occur in the existing towns, where municipal water and waste treatment is available and streets already exist.

Dumb Growth is to let economic interests from across the Bridge and the nation dictate zoning changes in Talbot County.  This will result in scattered commercial developments in cornfields across the county which will increase Bay pollution and destroy the traffic pattern around our county.  This referendum is an attempt by a major national chain to override a decision made by our elected officials.

By voting YES on Bill 924 on November 2nd, the taxpayers of Talbot County will send a message to national chains and other developers, that we are in charge of our county's growth.  We are for Smart Growth in Talbot County!
